Prashanthi Garden Model Crematorium

Located in the Ulliyeri Grama Panchayat of Kozhikode district, Prashanthi Garden Model Crematorium is South India's very first underground gas crematorium. This model crematorium has been designed in an eco-friendly manner, completely redefining traditional perceptions surrounding public burial and cremation grounds.

Key Features:

  • Underground Design: Built without altering the natural terrain or cutting down the trees of Karakkattu Kunnu (Karakkattu Hill) in Palora, Ulliyeri, its main sections have been constructed by tunneling into the hill.

  • Eco-Friendly Gas Furnaces: The facility features two modern gas furnaces capable of cremating two bodies simultaneously. The smoke generated during the cremation process is completely purified before being released through a 30-meter-high chimney atop the hill.

  • Modern and Serene Ambiance: Instead of the gloomy or frightening atmosphere usually associated with traditional crematoriums, this place is built to offer mental peace to those visiting in grief. Beautiful gardens, a memory grove (smrithivanam), paved walkways, rest rooms, seating areas, and a small reading room have been arranged as part of the facility.

  • Facilities for Rituals: Special areas have been set up for performing post-death rituals, bathing, and collecting the ashes. Additionally, there is a dedicated facility for placing the body for public viewing.
